Brexit update

With the 31st December rapidly approaching, the Hygiena team is working hard to prepare for any possible outcome of ongoing Brexit deal negotiations. We are committed to minimize any potential impact of the negotiations.

Weekly review of all relevant regulations and guidance issued by the government are being conducted to evaluate the impact on distribution between the UK and EU post-Brexit. A number of contingency plans have been put in place to ensure the changes will have the minimal possible impact on your business.

While the government negotiations are still ongoing, we would like to share our plan for the rest of 2020 and beginning of 2021:

  1. We are working closely with our logistics partners, DHL, FEDEX and DPD to ensure minimum disruption from our warehouse in the UK and exploring all freight options including supporting our customers (importer of record) with customs clearance and increased air freight shipments. In addition, Hygiena has conducted  stability studies  to confirm that our products are resistant to temperature conditions found with potential extended shipping times.
  2. If you utilize your own courier service, please contact them to determine any other recommendations they may have.
  3. In the event that no agreement is reached between the UK and EU, then World Trade Organisation (WTO) terms would apply. Fortunately, import duties and tariffs under WTO do not apply to diagnostic reagents, test kits, and instruments, so there would be no additional associated cost with many of Hygiena products.
  4. A small number of ancillary items will attract higher tariff’s under WTO terms. In this event, a discount will be placed against that line item to ensure your overall price remains unchanged.
  5. Import VAT would apply to products imported into the European Union which should be fully refundable through your local VAT return. You are advised to consult with your finance department regarding VAT issues and claiming back local VAT charges as per country regulations.

Once the agreements are finalized, and the position becomes clearer, Hygiena will provide more details regarding logistics, tax and duties.
