Empowering the Next Generation: Hygiena’s Global Commitment to Education, Innovation, and Community Impact

At Hygiena®, we believe that the future of food safety is not only built in laboratories but also nurtured in classrooms, research centers, and local communities. Hygiena actively engages in programs globally to foster the next generation of scientists, researchers and industry leaders that will contribute to global food safety. Our ongoing collaborations not only foster cross-border scientific exchanges but also support the UN Sustainable Development Goals—especially Goal 4: Quality Education and Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities.

Supporting Ukrainian Students Through Partnership with BHT Berlin

In Germany, Hygiena Diagnostics GmbH proudly supports the Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT) in a longstanding student exchange initiative with the National University of Food Technologies (NUFT) and the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences (NUBIP) in Ukraine. In times of immense challenge, this program provides students with a safe and inspiring space to study in Berlin, gain hands-on experience, attend technical seminars, and visit leading companies in the food and biotech industries.

Expanding Our Impact Through Global Academic Partnerships

From Europe to the Americas and Asia-Pacific, Hygiena actively partners with academic institutions to advance science and education. Our collaborations include:

  • United States: We support student research and innovation at Texas Tech University, University of Georgia, Ohio State University, Kansas State University, University of Rio Grande, and Chapman University. These partnerships include research grants, internships, technical summits, and guest lectures. As a long-standing member of the University of Nebraska’s Food Allergy Research and Resource Program (FARRP) industry consortium, Hygiena plays a key role in advancing food allergen science and training. Our allergen detection systems have been developed in close collaboration with industry partners to provide robust, intuitive, and fit-for-purpose methods that support comprehensive food safety programs worldwide.
  • United Kingdom: Our UK office, based on the University of Surrey campus in Guildford, has a long-standing connection with the university and regularly hosts placement students in our R&D lab. Currently, four of our staff members are former placement students from the university. In addition to university placements, we also welcome 4–5 work experience students each year from local schools and colleges during the Easter or summer holidays, offering them hands-on experience with diagnostic technologies.
  • Australia: Hygiena’s involvement in the World Food Safety Day Symposium at Western Sydney University, including a presentation by Dr. Uta Gasanov on microbiological testing and regulatory compliance, underscores our ongoing engagement with the academic and regulatory community in the ANZ region.
  • Brazil: Our São Paulo office is located near several leading universities, opening doors for potential new educational and research partnerships across Latin America.

A Shared Future Through Knowledge and Collaboration

Whether by mentoring a student in Camarillo, sponsoring research in Texas, or welcoming visiting scholars to Berlin, Hygiena is building bridges between today’s leaders and tomorrow’s innovators.

Our global outreach and academic engagement are not just add-ons—they are integral to our mission of creating innovative diagnostics for a healthier world. By investing in people and partnerships, we help ensure a safer and more connected world.
