How-To Video

InSite® Listeria

This instructional video demonstrates the proper use of InSite®, Hygiena's environmental Listeria test.

Key Steps:

  1. Collection
    • Label the test with location or time.
    • Swab a 4x4 inch (10x10 cm) area in a crisscross pattern with even pressure to maximize sample collection.
    • Avoid touching the swab shaft to prevent contamination.
  2. Activation
    • Break the Snap-Valve by bending the bulb forward and backward.
    • Squeeze the bulb 3-4 times to release the liquid into the tube.
    • Massage the bottom of the tube by squeezing it three times.
  3. Incubation & Results
    • Incubate at 37°C for 24-48 hours.
    • Check results at 24 hours and compare to the color chart on the tube:
      • Brown/black color = presumptive positive for Listeria.
    • A catalase test using hydrogen peroxide can confirm a positive result.

Disposal

  • Dispose of InSite by incineration, autoclaving, or soaking in bleach for one hour before discarding safely.
